Samui Island, Thailand
Koh Samui is Surat Thani's major tourist attraction. Featuring a multitude of beautiful beaches and bays the Island is shedding it's backpacker image and is rapidly earning a place on the International scene. Indeed prices here are almost as high as the much better known Phuket, if that's anything to go by. Samui's best beaches line the northern and eastern coasts, the most popular being Chaweng and Lamai.
These beaches also boast the wides choice of accommodation. Besides beaches, other island attractions include the Hin Lat and Na Muang waterfalls and the phallic rock formations at the southern end of Lamai Bay. And you should not miss the massive seated Buddha image either. Gone are the days when Samui Island catered almost exclusively to the young "backpacker" crowd, Samui has moved into the big time baby, whether you like it or not.
