Prachinburi


Prachinburi, Central Thailand

Prachinburi located some 134 kilometers from Bangkok. It occupies an area of 11,957.5 square kilometers and is administratively divided into seven Amphoes: Muang Ban Sang, Kabin Buri, Na Di, Prachantakham, Si Maha Phot and Si Mahosot.
Prachinburi Attractions:
Prcahin Buri National Museum This museum, lacated 200 meters southeast of the City Hall, puts on display the artifacts discovered within Prachin Buri Province and its nearby area. Also exhibited are ancient sculptures of very style and period with an aim to edicate the visitors on Thai art history. Underwater archaeology in the Gulf of Thailand as well as artifacts found off the coast of Amphoe Sattahip, Chon Buri Province are also on exhibition.
Wat Kaeo Phichit This very old important monastery having an unknown date of construction is located on the bank of Bank Pakong River in the vicinity of the township. The unusual characteristic of this monastery is the combination between the Greek and Thai arts, and the mural paintings inside the Ubosot are very beautiful.
King Naresuan The Great Shrine This shrine at the intersection where the road leads to Prachin Buri township area, near Chakkrapongse Camp, houses a standing stature of King Naresuan. The background relating to the construction of the shrine is that King Naresuan once led his army through the Prachin Buri area to Lawaek Town and slaughtered the ruler, Nak Phrasattha, for the Pathom Kam ceremony.


Wat Ton Pho Si Maha Pho This is an important monastery located in the vicinity of Amphoe Si Mahosot, 22 kilometers from Prachin Buri township. In the compound of this monastery lies the largest and oldest Bhodi tree in the country. The seedling stock of this Bhodi tree was brought over from Buddha Gaya, India. There are various Buddha images of different attitudes enshrined around the trunk.
Si Mahosot Ancient Town On the right hand of Kh Dated over 1,000 years old, the town is located kilometer away from Amphoes Si Mahosot along the Highway No.3070. Remains of the town wall, pond, and architecture are still to be seen.
A Pair of Lord Buddha's Footprints at Sa Morakot Sa Morakot is located in Amphoe Si Mahosot, some 23 kilometers from Prachin Buri on Highway no.319 Lord Buddha's Footprint discovered at Sa Morakot ancient remains since February 1986 are the largest and oldest footprints ever found in Thailand. They were carved on the natural lateritic floor. Each foot is about 1.30 metre wide and 3.50 metre long and has the Wheel of Dhamma at the middle on of its sole. These Footprints were dated between 13th to 15th centuries B.E. (or 7th to 8th century A.D.)
Royal Handwriting Monument The monument, in the play ground of Lai Phrathat School, Amphoe Si Maha Pho, is a stone slab inscribed with the royal handwriting of King Chulachomaklao who made a visit in 1908. It is now regarded as an important place of worship in Prachin Buri.
Nam Tok Khao Ito This fall is 12 kilometers from the township by way of the road leading to the three-way intersection at the main highway; after making a right turn, it is two kilometers to the waterfall. This is a famous natural tourists attraction of Prachin Buri comprising of a main stream that passes through rapids at many levels. However, there is water only during the rainy season and at the beginning of the cool season.
Nam Tok Huai Kasior The branch road that leads to this fall is located at Ban Khon Khwang, Tambon Dong Khilek, at Km.166 or 15 kilometers from the Prachin Buri township via a journey of four kilometers through a branching road. In the area of this waterfall one can view beautiful mountainous and jungle scenery.
Kaeng Salatdai This big rapid in Khlong Prachantakham is located 30 kilometers from the township. It takes one hour going by boat to this rapid, locally called by Prachantakham inhabitants "Takhro Waterfall".
Thap Lan National Park This park is in the vicinity of Amphoe Na Di on Highway No.304, about 30 kilometers beyond the Kabin Buri Intersection. It was established as a National Park on December 23,1981, occupying an approximate area of 2,240 square kilometers or 1,400,000 rai. The plants mostly found are of the palm family.
